The client’s art team had a great three-dimensional representation of the final space. We exceeded the expectation….and we did so easily.
This project was originally designed to be plotted film. Plotted film is using a computer guided knife to etch a design into vinyl. The excess vinyl is removed in a process called weeding. The film left behind is then masked with a transfer tape. The design is peeled from the liner and mounted to the desired surface.
Plotting, weeding, masking and transferring is a simple process and easily done with small graphics. Door logos and the open/closed lettering used by the front doors of businesses are common applications.
The film installation company was emailed the design and asked to provide a product and installation quote for plotted film. This client is good client and immediately laughed not in a mocking manner but in a “I am so glad I know Gray with HDClear and I don’t have to plot this!”
Seriously, we were his first call. There are hundreds of petals in this design perfectly spaced on a rather tall piece of glass. Any window tinter worth his salt could have installed this project with plotted film. A safe estimate would have been 2 hours for two guys.
This project took our client 45 minutes for one installer. 25 of which was spent talking with the end-user.
Many installation companies are used to inexpensive film, inexpensive weeding, inexpensive masking and inexpensive transferring. There are a few projects when all of these inexpensive elements are negligible and the project as a whole is low cost. Door logos, and open/close signs beside business front doors, are such projects.
There are other projects – like this one – where a single installer is on property for less than an hour. How many more projects could the installer knock out in a day?
Our suggestion is to always include an HDClear proposal on your graphic projects. Sometimes it makes sense with plotted film and sometimes it makes more sense with HDClear print processes like HDWhite.
Let the client choose between plotted and printed products. In necessary we can plot for you. We would rather print your projects and in cases like the Murad glass….printing is the winner.
