Seal Types

Vinyl/rubber gaskets – formed to ‘press’ between glass and frame. Most common and easiest to replace.

Silicone Wet glaze – high performance silicone is professionally installed to bond glass to frame.

Rubber seals – the more spongy the material the more difficult to clean.

Glazing Compound – Clay / Putty – worst possible type to tint next to. Found on older buildings this material requires ¼” light gaps as the film will not adhered properly if it picks up any of the compound. The clay breaks down becomes brittle and disintegrates into sand the whole time the tinter is trying to clean the glass.
